As tradition has it, ploughing takes place in march and june ; earthing down in may and august. The weeds that may grow in between the rows are hoed up 4 or 5 times between two ploughings. All this (ploughing as well as spraying and treatments) is done with a tiny light caterpillar tractor, so as not to tamp the soil. Only the topping and trimming is done with an appropriate tractor (twice in july). Whereas manual grape-picking takes place selectively over four sunny afternoons in late september. This natural way of proceeding has but one objective in mind : encourage the vinetree to invest all its energy into bearing berries of exceptional ripeness and quality.
